The Fantasticks presented by Theatre Extempore

The all-time classic musical that ran for 42 years off-Broadway comes to The MAIN. Boy meets girl. Parents fake a feud to get them together. It works (until it doesn’t), in a moonlit tale of growing up, falling in love, and learning what that really means. The Fantasticks is a lyrical, timeless celebration of imagination, heartbreak, and hope that skewers romantic tropes with charm, wit, and a cardboard moon; reminding us that real love is rarely as poetic as the song—and twice as complicated.

Curse of the Starving Class presented by Eclipse Theatre LA

Curse of the Starving Class by Sam Shepard is a darkly comic, emotionally charged play that explores the crumbling American Dream through the lens of a dysfunctional family on the brink. Set in a rundown farmhouse in rural California, the Tate family—battling poverty, broken dreams, and each other—clings to hope as they face betrayal, absurdity, and the ghosts of a starving spirit. Gritty, poetic, and laced with Shepard’s signature surrealism, this play is a gripping look at survival, identity, and the hunger that haunts us all.

Warnings: Rated R

Set entirely on one weathered park bench, Still Life in Central Park is an ensemble drama told in nine vignettes. Each scene captures a different pairing or small group—ranging from a runaway teen and a solitary jogger, to lifelong companions debating mortality, to a Parks Department worker tending quiet grief, to a clown on the cusp of reinvention. As characters come and go, their conversations reveal fragments of larger lives—loves found, losses survived, and choices that shape who they are becoming, together.

Passing Wind presented by Noisivision Studios

Passing Wind is an uproarious farce that defies convention by tearing down not only the fourth wall but the fifth wall as well, plunging into screwball madness. Two brothers join a caravan of characters who find themselves entangled in a play within a play within a world their fictional minds can scarcely grasp. They reveal themselves all to be playwrights who have authored the same play, Passing Wind, soon discovering their scripts are merely props.

An off-Broadway producer, an eccentric British couple, and a band of bumbling terrorists round out the mayhem. The group spirals into a battle over copyright ownership, only to be interrupted by the arrival of the actual playwright, who takes credit for the entire script while delivering its oft-quoted, proof-of-ownership line, which elucidates the play’s title.

Perfect Arrangement presented by Moxie TheatreWorks

It’s 1950 and new colors are being added to the Red Scare. Perfect Arrangement by Topher Payne is a theatrical production that blends razor-sharp wit with poignant social commentary in this clever, captivating play. Set in 1950 during the height of the Lavender Scare, the story follows Bob and Norma, two U.S. State Department employees who, to avoid suspicion, have created a seemingly “perfect” façade… They are each married to the other’s partner, in houses connected by a closet, forming two ideal heterosexual marriages in the eyes of the outside world.

When tasked with helping to root out “sexual deviants” in the government workforce, Bob and Norma find themselves trapped in an impossible moral dilemma. Their secret world teeters on the edge as the campaign they enforce begins to target their own identities.

Inspired by actual historical events, Payne’s play uses the familiar style of a 1950s sitcom to explore themes of identity, loyalty, and the cost of conformity.

With its mix of laughs, love, and suspense, Perfect Arrangement is both a hilarious farce and a thought-provoking examination of what it takes to live—and love—honestly in a time where it is nearly impossible to do so.
